Investor.com is a consumer advocacy project founded in 2018. It aims to help Americans research and compare financial advisors to avoid conflicts of interest. The White House Council of Economic Advisers estimated the annual cost of conflicted investment advice to be about $17 billion.
The “trust algorithm” built by Investor.com assesses every financial advisory firm in the United States based on many variables. It uses data from Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) filings.

In 2021, Five Star Professional evaluated 4,004 Twin Cities wealth managers and awarded 16% of them. To receive the Five Star award, a wealth manager must satisfy 10 objective eligibility and evaluation criteria.
