The One Thing to Know About Medicare Right Now

October 18, 2018

Summer has waned, making way for autumn colors. Parents have sent their children back to school. Meanwhile, many seniors are or should be considering changes to their Medicare plan. That’s right folks, it’s not just football season, it’s Medicare season!

Every year, the Medicare Open Enrollment period runs from October 15th through December 7th. It is a very good idea to review health and drug coverage during this time for two reasons 1) to avoid overpaying for health and drug costs – overpayment occurs for many Medicare beneficiaries who are not staying on top of their options, and 2) you have a Medicare “cost plan” and are hearing some rumblings from your insurer that things are changing.

How do you navigate all of your choices under Medicare; i.e., the Medicare plan itself, supplemental coverage, Medicare Advantage, work coverage if you have it, and changes to your personal situation in terms of health and drug costs? How do you know what option(s) are right for you?

Here is the one thing you need to know. There is help.

In Minnesota, the Senior LinkAge Line offers consultation on all areas described above. It is a free resource, designed to be objective, and is paid for with your tax dollars. Connect with them by visiting http://seniorlinkageline.com or calling 1-800-333-2433.

What if you don’t live in Minnesota? Other states also offer support. Here is a list: Click here.

Please do share information about these resources with others, not only with Medicare beneficiaries, but also with care givers and children helping their parents.

As always, let us know your questions and comments.
